Mielec Women

In Mielec the name Stal belongs first to football: the men's side won the Ekstraklasa in 1973 and 1976 and reached the Polish Cup final in 1976. The women's volleyball team is the oldest women's section under that name, yet it has spent long stretches of its life playing under others.

The first break came on 26 June 1997, when the parent multi-sport club was dissolved and the volleyball section became an independent body. Stal returned in 2004 and stayed until 2012. After a year as Stal Mielec S.A., the team was renamed UKS Szóstka Mielec in 2013 and kept that name until 2019.

Mariola Zenik joined in 2006, a year after winning the European title with Poland, and played for the club until 2012, through the years when it was called Stal.

The old Hangar Arena, with 1,924 seats, was closed in 2017 because of its poor technical condition. The replacement, the MOSiR hall on ul. Solskiego, was completed in 2019 at a cost of 145 million PLN and holds more than 3,000 spectators. That same year the club became SPS Stal Mielec, and a volleyball academy was registered at the hall's address. Since 2021 the team has played as ITA TOOLS Stal Mielec in the TAURON Liga, the Polish women's top flight, and in the Polish Cup.

The section began in 1952 with a team from the town's Pedagogical High School, which Stal Mielec used as the basis for its first women's side.
