The new side took Freja's licence and, with it, its place in the first division.

Three seasons later that second-tier team went to the cup final and beat Esbjerg 1–0. No club outside the top flight had won the Danish Cup since 1974.

The second cup came in 2021, at Ceres Park in Aarhus, and it was nothing like the first: SønderjyskE were beaten 4–0. In the league the club has never gone higher than third, in 2012–13.

Home is Cepheus Park Randers , which opened in 1961 and has been worked on twice since the merger — a refit in 2006, then a full rebuild in 2013 to a design by the Danish practice C.F. Møller. It holds 10,300, with 1,300 of those standing; for European nights the capacity comes down to 9,700.
