RC Cannes Women

RC Cannes have played in Ligue A Féminine since 1967, when the French national league was restructured, and they hold the record for French championships: 21 as of 2019. The most recent came after a rebuild under the coach Riccardo Marchesi. The club had lost its footing after 2015, when two of the people who had built its success left in the same season.

The first was Victoria Ravva, who played for Cannes for 25 seasons from 1995 and won 39 titles with them. The second was the coach Yan Fang, who arrived from China in 1993 and turned a good side into one that won 18 consecutive championships, from 1997-98 to 2014-15. In Europe, Cannes won the CEV Champions League in 2001-02, beating Foppapedretti Bergamo in the final, and again in 2002-03 against Uralochka Ekaterinburg. They reached two more finals, in 2005-06 and 2011-12, and did not win either.

The club itself is older than its volleyball. It was founded in 1922 as a multi-sport body. The volleyball section followed in 1942, and in 1948 the men's team was dissolved, leaving only the women's side. The men's game in the city continues under a separate club, AS Cannes, and it is that club, not this one, that is known as the Dragons of Cannes. In the women's game the local rival is Voléro Le Cannet, and their meetings are called le derby azuréen. Cannes marked their centenary in 2022.

Since 2005 the team has played at the Palais des Victoires, which holds 4,000. It replaced the Palais des Sports André Henry.
