When Paris Lodron Salzburg collapsed financially, the police sports club Schwarz Weiß Salzburg took over its licence and, in 2004, built a volleyball section on the wreckage. That section became PSV Salzburg, and within two years it had struck a partnership with the women's club VBG Salzburg.

Nothing since 2004 has matched what came before it. Paris Lodron had taken the Austrian championship in 1995 and the cup twice, in 1992 and 1995; UVC Salzburg, another predecessor, won the title in 1993 and the cup in 1988 and 1991. The women's side found its own smaller success, taking the 2. Bundesliga West championship in 2011 and earning promotion back to the top-flight Volley League the following year. The men's team plays on in the 2. Bundesliga Nord.

The club still goes by PSvBG-Boys, a name that keeps the police-sport and VBG halves of its history in the same breath, and still wears the black and white of Schwarz Weiß. Squads have carried players from well beyond Austria — Marian Pascariuc from Moldova, Toni Tuominen from Finland, Brad Gordon from Australia, Phillip Schneider from Germany among them — pulled to a club that, being the only one from the region playing at national level, has no local derby to speak of.

Matches are played at the ULSZ Rif.
