Sosnowiec Women

The women's section grew out of GKS Płomień Milowice, set up by miners and firefighters of the 'Wiktor' pit in 1929. In 1992 that structure merged with GKS Kazimierz, and the unified club has carried the Płomień name ever since.

The women's team's peak came in a six-year run between 1974 and 1981, when it took the Polish Championship five times, and it added two Polish Cups in 2003 and 2004. Between those two spells it kept reaching cup finals without lifting the trophy, in 1973, 1982, 1985, 1989 and 1990 — knocking on the door for the better part of two decades before the breakthrough came.

The club now plays as MKS MOS Credo Płomień Sosnowiec within the wider UKS MOS Kazimierz structure, competing in the second-tier I Liga rather than at the level its 1970s side reached. Home matches are played in front of just over 3,000 seats at Arena Sosnowiec, and the team is still known locally by its old nickname, Płomienie — the Flames.

Of the players who came through the club, Katarzyna Skowrońska-Dolata is the name Sosnowiec volleyball is best known for outside the city.
