Szczyrk Women

That centre is SMS PZPS Szczyrk, run by the Polish Volleyball Federation to develop players rather than to win things, and its senior side plays in the shadow of that mission: in the 2024/2025 season the team finished ninth in the second-tier 1. Liga, a result that says nothing about what the club is actually for.

What it is for shows up on team sheets elsewhere. Joanna Wołosz came through Szczyrk before becoming a fixture for the Polish national team; Malwina Smarzek and Magdalena Stysiak followed the same path out of the same building. The list of internationals who spent formative seasons here runs long enough that the club's own league standing has become almost beside the point — Szczyrk exports players, not trophies.

Matches are played at Hala COS OPO, a modest hall that holds 950 people, on Plażowa Street near the centre of town. There is no rival to speak of; fixtures against former partner clubs like Płomień Sosnowiec are ordinary league business, nothing sharper.
