Gedania Gdańsk Women

Gedania's rivals sit in the same city: AZS Uniwersytet Gdański, and matches between the two are known as the Gdańsk Derby.

The women's side won the Polish Championships in 1951, 1953 and 1954, and finished second in 1952. Those years, in the early 1950s, remain the peak. After that came spells in the second division, then a return to the top flight in 1987. Four years later, in 1991, the team took silver again.

The team's nickname, Gedaniaczki, is still used by local supporters.

The top-flight run ended with relegation in 2010. Money was the problem. In 2011 the senior team was dissolved, and the club kept going through its youth sides, which had already won the Polish Cadet Championships in 2007 and 2011. The juniors then took the Polish Junior Championships in 2012 and 2013, so the work with young players carried on while there was no senior team to play for.

The senior team was re-established in 2017 and started again in the II Liga. In 2024 it moved up to the I Liga, the second tier, after Wieżyca Stężyca withdrew and left a vacancy. The last national title is now more than seventy years old.
