Wildcats 2 exist because someone had to play. When the school gymnasium at Lerchenfeldstraße fills for a weekend fixture, it is usually the younger squad on court, the group that feeds into ATSC Kelag Wildcats Klagenfurt's first team once a player is ready for the step up. The second team took its own place in competition in the 2021/22 season, entering what is now the 2. Bundesliga Women after time in the AVL Women, and it exists specifically to give those players matches that count.

The Lerchenfeldhalle, attached to the BG/BRG Lerchenfeld school, is not built for spectacle. It is a gymnasium first and a volleyball venue second, and that suits a team whose job is development rather than silverware.

Wildcats 2 have not collected honours of their own, and that is not really the point of a team built to prepare players for a first team that has won the Austrian Cup and finished runner-up in the league ten times over. Blue and white, the colours shared across the club, mark out the second team on the same court where careers at Klagenfurt tend to begin.
