Elmina Sharks

Coconut Grove Beach Resort ran a football team long before Elmina had a club anyone outside the Central Region had heard of. That side, Coconut Grove Sharks, is where the club now known as Elmina Sharks began, founded in 1998 and carrying the resort's name for more than a decade before it was changed to Elmina Sharks in 2010.

The Sharks spent most of their history outside the Ghana Premier League. In 2020/21 they avoided the drop by finishing 15th, saved only by a head-to-head edge over Ebusua Dwarfs. The reprieve lasted one season: in 2021/22 they went down again, 18th with 23 points.

Home games are played in front of 5,000 at the Nduom Sports Stadium, a ground locals still know by the name of Paa Kwesi Nduom. Green and white are the club colours, and the Sharks nickname sits alongside an older local one, Botwekumba, still used around Elmina more than the English version.

No player is tied to the club's recent years more than Benjamin Bernard Boateng, who led the scoring charts across the 2019 to 2021 seasons, the stretch that took the Sharks into the Premier League and almost kept them there.
