Samuel Kuffour left Kumasi for Torino and went on to Bayern Munich.

Founded in 1956, the club built its identity around Green and White and around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which it shares with Asante Kotoko — the fixture between the two is played as the Kumasi Derby. The Ghana Top Four Cup, won in 2004 with a 2–0 final victory over Liberty Professionals, remains the club's high point, and the closest it has come since was a runners-up finish in the 2022–23 Ghana FA Cup, lost to Dreams FC.

That same season ended in relegation, tied to a legal dispute with the Ghana Football Association over an ineligible player fielded by Tamale City. Faisal took the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which dismissed the appeal in October 2023, and the club has played since in the Division One League while trying to rebuild.

A teenager from Kumasi who became a European champion with Bayern Munich, wearing Faisal's green and white before anyone outside Ghana had heard of him.
