Racing Club de Montevideo

Parque Osvaldo Roberto sits on Avenida Millán in Sayago, a stretch of Montevideo the club settled into in 1941–42. Racing built it themselves, and it has held roughly 8,500 ever since — no expansion, no redevelopment, just the one stand and the pitch it has always had.

The club started out in 1913 as Yuyito F.C., then Guaycurú, before taking the Racing Club name. What it has produced since is the reason locals still call it La Escuelita — the little school. Víctor Santos Iriarte, who scored the winning goal in the 1930 World Cup final, came through here, as did Ladislao Mazurkiewicz, part of Uruguay's 1970 World Cup squad. Fernando Morena, the country's all-time leading scorer, started his career at Racing before moving on to build that record elsewhere.

For most of the twentieth century the club's rhythm was promotion and relegation — Segunda División titles in 1955, 1958, 1974, 1989 and 2008 kept bringing it back up, but the top flight never stuck. That changed on 26 April 2026, when Racing won the Torneo Apertura, its first Primera División championship. Fernando Cavenaghi, who became the club's principal shareholder after it restructured as a Sociedad Anónima Deportiva in 2021, watched a side built on the same academy pipeline get over the line.

Continental football arrived late but not quietly: Racing's 2010 Copa Libertadores debut made it the first Uruguayan club to survive the qualifying round, and in 2024 it reached the last 16 of the Copa Sudamericana, only for Huachipato to eliminate it on penalties after Racing had won the first leg 3–2. None of it has changed much back in Sayago, where the ground still seats the same 8,500 it always has.
