Odense has more football clubs than most Danish cities its size, and Marienlyst is the fifth-oldest of them still playing. The club was formed in 1922.

The trophies from the early decades are regional ones: the Fyn Cup in 1929, 1931 and 1933.

The name stopped fitting in 2011, when Marienlyst reached the 2nd Division — the third tier — for the first time. Two years later they went up again, into the 1st Division, and spent the 2013–14 season at the second level of Danish football.

By 2019 the club was in the fourth tier, and it now plays in the Denmark Series, where it finished second in Group 3 in 2024–25.
