AIK Basket Women

AIK Basket Women compete in the Basketligan Dam, playing home games at Vasalundshallen in Solna, a hall that seats 500. The team goes by "Marginotlinjen" among its own supporters, a nickname kept separate from "Gnaget," the label attached to the parent club's other sections.

The basketball section came into being on 5 March 2015, at an extraordinary general meeting held at Solna Gymnasium. Just over a year later, on 22 July 2016, AIK took over the women's and youth programme of Solna Vikings, a club that had once ruled the domestic game before collapsing under financial mismanagement. The takeover gave AIK a women's team built on that collapsed club's players and structure rather than one assembled from nothing.

Solna Vikings had won the Swedish Basketball League three times, in the 2001-02, 2003-04 and 2005-06 seasons. AIK does not list those titles as its own, though the players who carried that history did not simply vanish when the old club folded — they moved into black and yellow, the colours borrowed from the wider AIK organisation founded back in 1891.

Across Stockholm, Djurgården Basket is the team AIK measures itself against, meetings between the two carrying the weight of a derby even without a name of their own to match the football rivalries in the city. On the court, AIK Basket Women has yet to add a championship under its own banner since 2016.
