The promotion followed a run through Basketettan Södra in which Onsala lost only once all season, the clearest sign yet of what had built up underneath the club since 2007. It started as a project around Henric Löfvenborg and grew, year by year, into fifteen youth teams and roughly 500 members — a scale unusual for a women's programme based in the Kungsbacka area rather than one of the larger basketball towns.

The club calls itself, without much modesty, Sweden's friendliest basketball club, and the name carries more weight than a nickname normally would: Pirates is written into the club's official title, not bolted on for marketing. Black runs through the kit alongside orange picked up on the merchandise line.

None of this has yet produced a senior trophy. The Basketligan campaign will be the club's first taste of the country's top tier, arriving as newcomers with a temporary home floor and a squad still more associated with developing players than winning finals.

Löfvenborg remains the name attached to how the club got here: recognised with the Swedish federation's Årets Eldsjäl award for the volunteer work that turned a 2007 start-up into a club with a senior team in the country's second division.
