Alte Kanti Aarau Women

Charlotte Kohler came up through a youth academy that AKA opened in 1990, ten years after six students at the Alte Kantonsschule Aarau put the club together as a school side. That line from classroom to court still shows: the school's blue and white stayed the team's colours, and the club kept the name Alte Kanti.

The season the club talks about is 2014–15. Both the men's and the women's sides won the NLB that year, and the women followed it with a run to the Swiss Cup quarter-finals. Promotion to the NLA came with the title, but Aarau could not hold the level — the men turned promotion down over cost, and the women stayed up only until 2016–17, when a shortage of players sent them back down to the NLB.

Matches against BC Winterthur carry the weight of a German-speaking Switzerland derby. Closer to home, BC Baden has become the one that matters most for standing in the canton of Aargau. Foreign names have passed through the roster too — Montenegro's Snežana Aleksić among them — in a squad built mostly from the Telli hall where the club still plays.

Six students started it. 1990 is when the academy that raised Kohler opened its doors.
