BBC Genève Women

The Salle du Pommier holds 1,500 for basketball, a size that keeps the Lionnes' games in Le Grand-Saconnex close and loud rather than lost in an oversized arena, and it doubles as home for the club's men's side, Lions de Genève, under the same roof.

The women's team carries a name and colours borrowed downstream: Lionnes, the feminine of Lions, the men's team that gave the whole operation its identity in 2010 after a merger with Meyrin Grand-Saconnex. The parent club traces back further, to 2000, when it started out as Genève Devils before that rebrand. The men have since built the honours boards that matter locally, including a Swiss Championship as recently as 2024–25. The Lionnes have not added to it; they sit in the second division rather than at the top of Swiss women's basketball.

What separates them from a purely domestic outfit is European exposure: the Lionnes have played in the EuroCup Women, a step beyond what their league position at home would suggest.

They remain the smaller half of a two-team club built around one ground in Le Grand-Saconnex, playing under a nickname that only makes sense once you know the men came first.
