SB League Women (Switzerland) 2026/27

The SB League Women stands as the premier tier of Swiss basketball, operating under the governance of Swiss Basketball. Founded in 1940, the competition has evolved significantly over eight decades, rebranding from Nationalliga A in 2017 to align with the national federation's structure. The league currently features a competitive format involving a regular season where teams play each other twice, followed by a split into Winners and Losers Stages. This unique structure ensures high stakes throughout the campaign, with the top five teams from the Winners Stage and the top three from the Losers Stage advancing to the playoffs.

Playoff contention is fierce, culminating in a best-of-five final series. The most recent champions, Nyon Basket Féminin, secured their fourth title in the 2024–25 season by defeating BCF Elfic Fribourg 3–1. This victory marked a significant shift, ending Elfic’s dominant six-year reign which included consecutive championships from 2018–19 to 2023–24. Historically, Chêne Basket holds the record for the most titles with nine, the last won in 1964, while Elfic remains the second most successful club with eight honours.

European qualification is achieved through FIBA Europe Club Coefficients, with Swiss teams entering via qualification rounds for the FIBA Europe Cup rather than through direct berths. The league operates without a distinct title sponsor, distinguishing it from its men’s counterpart, the Binance League. While promotion and relegation mechanisms with the second-tier NLB Women exist, specific details remain less defined in public records compared to the established top-flight structure. The competition continues to serve as the primary pathway for Swiss talent to reach international standards.
