Barreirense

Barreirense won the 2019 Proliga by a single point. The final series against Maia Basket finished 69-68 at the Pavilhão Municipal Luís de Carvalho. It was the club's first major honour since the Portuguese Cup of 1985.

The club had been here before. Basketball reached Barreirense in 1927, sixteen years after the parent club was founded, and Barreirense was the first club south of the Tagus to play the game. Thirty years later the Alvi-rubros won the Portuguese championship in 1956/57, added the cup the same season, and took the league again in 1957/58. Five more cups followed, the last in 1984/85.

Home is the Ginásio Sede, which locals call "A Caixinha", the Little Box. It holds about 500 people. On the other side of the town sits Galitos, and the meeting of the two is the derby do Barreiro.

The club's best-known export came up through its own age groups. Neemias Queta joined at 10 and made their senior debut in 2016/17. In 2021 the Sacramento Kings picked Queta 39th in the NBA draft, which made Queta the first Portuguese player to reach the league.

The youth section has won 28 championships, and that remains the club's steadiest work.
