Galitos Aveiro

Galitos Aveiro play in the Proliga, the second tier of Portuguese basketball. In 2001/02 they won the Second Division title, and a year later they finished runners-up in the First Division. They had won the Second Division once before, in 1970/71.

Basketball reached the club in 1932, nearly three decades after its foundation in 1904. The crest is older than the sport. It shows a red rooster on one leg with a cork beneath it, an image of independence, and it gave the club the name Clube dos Galitos, the Rooster Club. Red and white are the colours. The pavilion, inaugurated on 10 October 1997, holds 1,000 spectators, and the club's basketball has been played there through the years since.

The centenary fell in 2004, and in 2005 Galitos received the Colar de Honra ao Mérito Desportivo, the highest national distinction in Portuguese sport. Among the players, Ryan Preston was on the roster in 2019/20. Angelo Oliveira passed through Galitos before he moved on to Beira-Mar.

The local rivalry is with Illiabum Clube, and in Aveiro the meeting is simply called "o derby". It has produced hard matches. One of them, in the centenary year of 2004, ended with aggression between players.
