The hall is named after Comendador Serafim Marques, and it is where Sampaense Basket has done its work: the Pavilhão Serafim Marques in São Paio de Gramaços. The club behind it is older than the sport it is now known for. The Sociedade Recreativa Lealdade Sampaense was registered on 7 March 1909 as a recreational society. Basketball came into it only in 1993, when the first activity began.

The results arrived before the paperwork did. In 2001 the team won the 2ª Divisão. Three seasons later, in 2003/04, it took the first of three consecutive Proliga championships, then repeated in 2004/05 and 2005/06. The basketball section was created statutorily in 2005, in the middle of that run. By then the club had a national title and was already defending its second.

The Taça de Portugal is the competition that has not gone their way. Sampaense reached the semi-finals in 2011/12 and again in 2012/13. Two years running they got to the last four, and the trophy stayed out of reach both times.
