Taca de Portugal 2026/27

The Taça de Portugal de Basquetebol stands as the premier domestic knockout competition in Portuguese men's basketball. Organised by the Portuguese Basketball Federation (FPB), this tournament has a long-standing tradition, having been established during the 1943–44 season. It occupies a distinct position in the national hierarchy, operating separately from the league championship and the secondary Taça da Liga.

The structure of the cup allows for broad participation, welcoming clubs from the top-tier Liga Betclic, the second-tier Proliga, and various lower regional divisions. This openness creates the potential for significant upsets, as smaller sides can face established giants. The competition progresses through knockout rounds, ultimately culminating in a Final Four stage held at a neutral venue. This format ensures that the semi-finals and final take place in a single location, adding to the event's spectacle.

Historically, S.L. Benfica holds the record for success in this competition, having won the trophy 23 times. FC Porto follows as the second-most successful team with 16 titles, while Sporting CP has claimed the cup nine times. Recent results highlight the competitive balance; Sporting CP currently holds the title after defeating FC Porto in the 2025–26 final held in Albufeira. In the previous season, FC Porto secured victory by beating Sporting CP.

The tournament is distinct from the Taça da Liga, which is restricted to LPB teams and often features a group stage component. While the league pyramid places the LPB at the top with relegation to the Proliga, the cup offers a separate path to glory. The current season involves teams such as Oliveirense, CA Queluz, Imortal, Sporting CP, Vasco da Gama, and Galitos Barreiro, continuing the legacy of this historic contest.
