Pavilhão Desportivo Unidade Vimaranense holds 2,500 people, a modest capacity that turns most nights into a close, loud affair rather than a spectacle. The venue belongs to the wider identity of a club that took basketball on relatively late: Vitória Sport Clube itself dates to 22 September 1922, but its men's and women's sections only came into being in 2004 and 2005, absorbing Basquetebol Clube de Guimarães, which had run the sport in the city since 1993. That succession explains why the basketball side carries none of the century-old weight football fans in Guimarães are used to.

The men's team built its case for attention with back-to-back silverware, winning the Taça de Portugal in 2007–08 and again in 2012–13. Fernando Sá coached through both campaigns and stayed at the helm from 2006 to 2019, a thirteen-year run that gave the section a continuity rare in a club still finding its footing in the sport. The women's team answered in kind, taking the Campeonato Nacional da 1.ª Divisão in 2016–17.

Locally the fixture that sharpens attention is against Sporting Clube de Braga, the Derby do Minho carrying over from football into the arena. Among the names who wore white and green, José Silva is the one supporters still bring up first when the conversation turns to who defined the early years of the section.

The club is known as Os Conquistadores, a nickname that sits oddly against a trophy count still counted in single figures, but one that has followed the team since its formation regardless. Two Portuguese Cups in six years remain the clearest measure of what the section has managed since 2004.
