Blue and red are the colours, and there is no nickname and no derby rival. The club's results have come mostly from its youth teams.

The under-14s won the national championship in 2005, and the under-16s won theirs two years later, in 2006/07. In 2007/08 the women's senior team won the Campeonato Nacional da Liga Feminina and the Taça de Portugal in the same season. Those are the club's only senior national titles. The under-14 boys took another national title in 2013.

The men's team had its own high point in between.

In May 2025 the under-18 girls won the Taça Nacional Sub-18 Feminina, seventeen years after the senior women's double. It is the club's most recent title.

Paulo Diamantino died in 2017. The club retired his number 6 shirt in his memory, and no one at Maia has worn it since.

The club began with a single founder, Dr. Vieira de Carvalho, who registered Maia Basket Clube on 30 June 1997.
