BC Komárno

When MBK Rieker Komárno collapsed under debt in 2020, its place in Slovak basketball did not stay empty for long: a new club, BC Komárno, was registered as a separate legal entity and took up where the old one had left off. The bankrupt predecessor had itself started life in 1991 as BK Dandy Komárno, and had already won a Slovak Extraliga title and a Slovak Cup before its finances gave out — history the new club does not claim as its own.

BC Komárno reached the Extraliga for the first time in the 2021/22 season and were runners-up that year, a result they repeated in 2020/21 and 2022/23 without ever closing out the title. The one trophy that did go to Komárno came from outside the domestic league: the Alpsko-Jadranský pohár in 2022, won under captain Samuel Volárik.

Supporters known as the Red Army follow the team in red, black and white at the Mestská športová hala, a hall holding 1,475. The fixture that matters most is against BK Patrioti Levice, the derby of southern Slovakia. The academy and B-team behind the first squad are where Juraj Páleník came through before being named Peak Player Under 23 in 2023.
