BKM Lucenec

Lučenec had a basketball club long before it had this one. MBK Lučenec, also known as BK ESO Lučenec, played from 1998 to 2017 and won the Slovak Extraliga in 2004 and 2006, and the Slovak Cup in 2004 and 2007. When it ended, the city did not simply carry on under the old name.

BKM Lučenec was set up in 2017 as a new legal entity. The club and its official website state that it is not the successor to MBK, though both acknowledge what the older side achieved as part of the city's basketball heritage. The logo carries a pelican, a symbol of Lučenec, and the colours are blue, white and orange.

The new club took less time than might have been expected to add to that history. In 2022 it won the Slovak Cup, and the same year it finished second in the Extraliga. Imports carried much of that period: Jared Sherfield, Shamar Givance, Vasilije Kneževič, Tyrik Armstrong and Taren Sullivan all played here between 2022 and 2024.

The local route is through the academy, AKAPO Lučenec. Lukáš Huťka made his Extraliga debut at 16 and joined the senior roster for the 2025-2026 season. Alongside the Extraliga and the Slovak Cup, the club also enters the Federal Cup.

Home games are played at Športová hala ARENA.
