Extraliga (Slovakia) 2026/27

The Slovak Basketball Extraliga, branded as **Tipos SBL**, operates as the premier professional basketball competition in Slovakia. Managed by the Slovak Basketball Association (SBA), the league traces its origins to 1993, established after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia ended the federal league era. For a decade, the top flight was known as the 1. liga before adopting the Slovenská basketbalová liga title in the 2014/15 season.

The competition features ten clubs playing a regular season of 30 games per team. This schedule splits into an initial double round-robin phase and a subsequent ‘super-stage’ where squads divide into groups. The top six finishers secure direct entry to the quarter-finals, while the remaining four contest a play-in tournament for the final two spots. Playoffs decide the champion through best-of series.

BK Slovakofarma Pezinok stands as the most successful club with nine titles, including a dominant run between 1997 and 2002. Patrioti Levice follows closely with seven championships and holds the current title from the 2024/25 campaign. Inter Bratislava adds five victories to the historical record.

The league maintains a distinct structure compared to regional peers. It operates with fewer teams than the Czech NBL or the Polish PLK. Furthermore, registration rules for foreign players differ significantly, avoiding the strict national quotas found in Poland or the EU classifications used in the Czech Republic.

Promotion and relegation link the Extraliga to the second-tier 1 Liga. The lowest-placed side enters a relegation play-out against contenders from the lower division to determine the final squad composition for the upcoming season.
