Falco KC Szombathely

Miloš Konakov's players collected the 2025–26 title with a franchise that has stopped treating championships as rare events. Under him Falco KC Szombathely has kept a run going that now stands at seven NB I/A crowns, six of them landed in the last six seasons, since the 2018–19 breakthrough put the club at the top of Hungarian basketball for good. The three Magyar Kupa wins since 2021 sit alongside those league titles, and the team pushed on into Europe last season, reaching the Top 4 of the FIBA Europe Cup.

None of that was assumed when György Gráczer and István Németh put the club together in 1980 with backing from Falco, the local wood-industry firm whose name it still carries. The colours, yellow and black, earned the team its nickname, and the club worked its way into the top flight only in 1992, more than a decade after it started.

Arena Savaria, opened in 2006, holds 4,000 for basketball and has become the stage for the fixture that matters most in Szombathely: the derby against BC Körmend, known locally as the Vasi El Clásico. A quieter rivalry runs against Zalakerámia ZTE KK. Inside the arena, two numbers are gone from circulation — 18, retired for Zoltán Horváth, who died in a car accident in 2009, and 8, held for László Kálmán.

What the club has not done is turn its domestic run into a lasting European one. The Basketball Champions League campaigns have stopped at the Top 16 and the round of 16, and a Europe-wide trophy remains the one thing missing from the run built under Konakov and managing director Gábor Máté.
