Balázs Kerpel-Fronius has worn the captain's armband at Szedeák long enough to become its managing director without ever really leaving the building.

The club reached the top-flight NB I/A in the early 2000s, then pulled out of the second tier altogether in 2002, leaving only youth sides on the books. It took Péter Kardos, brought in from 2006, to rebuild the senior team from NB I/B upward; promotion back to the top division followed in 2010. Zsolt Kiss, once the team's own captain, now runs that same youth pipeline as Youth Development Director — a role that gained weight when the Hungarian Basketball Federation granted the club official Academy status in 2025.

Silverware has stayed just out of reach. Szedeák has never won the league or the Magyar Kupa, but bronze in the NB I/A in 2019 and 2021 marked the club's best league finishes, and two Cup finals — lost to Szolnoki Olaj in both 2022 and 2024 — showed it could reach the last weekend of the season without getting over the line. A European debut came in 2021–22, when the club made it through to the second round of the FIBA Europe Cup.

Szedeák remains the only top-tier professional team in Szeged, so there is no local derby to speak of; the sharper rivalry runs against Falco KC Szombathely, renewed whenever the two meet in the Cup or the playoffs. For now the club's task is the same one it keeps setting itself: turn near-misses in the Cup into something with a medal attached.
