The club traces back to 1938, passed through names like KMTE, KSzTE and KSC before taking over in 2001. The years are still spoken of as the club's best, capped by a Magyar Kupa win in 2005. When the sponsor pulled out, the city tried to hold the team together, but the club had to start over.

That restart came in 2012, and the new KTE-Duna Aszfalt began not in the top division but in NB I/B, the second tier. The same season brought a Magyar Kupa final, lost to Atomerőmű SE.

Krisztián Wittmann and Kemal Karahodžić both wore the shirt during that climb, and both went on to play for Hungary.

Between the fall of Univer and the runners-up finish of 2015 sat a single season in the second division: one year in NB I/B before Kecskemét was back among the country's best.
