Guyana Amazon Warriors

Providence Stadium sits outside Georgetown on the East Bank of the Demerara, and its 20,000 seats give the Guyana Amazon Warriors a home crowd.

What sets the Warriors apart in the CPL is a strange consistency: they reach finals more often than almost anyone. Runners-up finishes piled up in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2024 and 2025, against four different opponents, before the club finally turned one into a title in 2023, beating the Trinbago Knight Riders in the final. The nearest they came to erasing that history outright was 2019, when they went through the entire league phase unbeaten and lost only in the final itself.

Imran Tahir has captained the side and stands as its leading wicket-taker, a leg-spinner trusted to bowl the overs that decide close games, while Shimron Hetmyer has scored more runs for Guyana than anyone else who has worn the shirt. The bowling produced its own oddity in 2020, when the Warriors defended a total of just 118 against the Jamaica Tallawahs, the lowest score any side has successfully protected in the competition's history. Beyond the CPL, the club has carried that form into the Global Super League, winning the title in 2025 and again in 2026, the second time by six runs in a match that finished 85 to 79.

None of it has come easily against Trinbago Knight Riders, who have beaten Guyana in three separate finals and remain the team the Warriors most need to get past when the tournament reaches its final weekend.
