Leicester Riders Women have never lifted the WBBL regular-season title, and that gap sits at the centre of a decade of near-misses: second place in 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2020-21.

The programme grew out of Loughborough University, where it started in 2011 as Loughborough Riders in the National Basketball League's second division. Three years later, when the WBBL was set up as the top flight of the English women's game, the club joined as one of its founder members and took the Leicester Riders name.

Cup competitions have been kinder than the league table. Riders beat Sevenoaks Suns 78-67 to win the WBBL Cup in 2021, and they took the Betty Codona Trophy three years running, from 2017-18 to 2019-20. Sevenoaks also denied them at the other end of a play-off final, edging a 60-55 win in 2018-19.

Holly Winterburn came through the club's system and was named WBBL Young Player of the Year; the current roster mixes that homegrown strand with imports such as Australian centre Kate Oliver and Icelandic guard Sara Hinriksdóttir.

Games are played at the Loughborough University Netball Centre, a 300-seat hall that can be extended to 500 with flat seating.

What the trophy cabinet still lacks is the one that matters most in the league phase: after four runner-up finishes, the WBBL championship itself remains the honour Riders have not found a way to win.
