Linz Women

For the 2017/18 season, women's basketball in Upper Austria sent a team to the top flight that had not existed a year earlier. The BBC Panthers Linz-Enns were assembled from players in Linz and Enns, and they entered a competition that crossed a border. Alongside the Austrian Women's Basketball Bundesliga (AWBL), the Panthers played in the joint Austrian-Slovak league, so a season took them well beyond Upper Austria.

The Panthers played two seasons at that level, 2017/18 and 2018/19, and then stopped competing in the top flight. The region did not lose its place. In 2018/19 DBB Linz Wels entered the AWBL, and it has played in every season since. The team also appears under the name Danubz Linz.

The fixtures that matter come against the sides from the east and south. Vienna United Women and UBSC-DBBC Graz Women are the regular opponents, and Union Kuenring of Vienna remain the benchmark for the whole league.

Linz Wels have won neither the Austrian championship nor the cup.
