D'Tigress train and play out of the Indoor Sports Hall inside Lagos's National Stadium, which seats just 3,000. The federation that runs the side is based in Abuja, so the team also turns up at the MO Arena there.

Nigeria's women joined the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in 1964 and finished fifth at the 1974 AfroBasket. The breakthrough abroad came at the 2004 Athens Olympics, where a win over South Korea in the eleventh-place match made them the first African women's side to win an Olympic basketball game. Two decades later, in Paris, they beat Australia, France and Canada in the group stage to reach the quarterfinals, becoming the first African team, men's or women's, to get that far at the Games, before the United States ended the run and left them eighth.

Continentally there is no equal: seven AfroBasket titles, most of them won at the expense of Senegal, including an 84-74 final in 2023. Amy Okonkwo took the tournament's most valuable player award in both 2023 and 2025, under Rena Wakama, the first woman to coach the national team.

All of that still comes back to a 3,000-seat hall in Lagos, where the crowd that watches Nigeria collect most of its titles fits with room to spare.
