Pesaro

The arena in Pesaro has carried three names: it opened as BPA Palas, became the Adriatic Arena, and is now the Vitrifrigo Arena. It holds 10,323 for basketball.

Scavolini is the one that stuck. In 1983 it won the FIBA Saporta Cup, beating ASVEL Villeurbanne 111–99 in the final in Palma de Mallorca. Two more Saporta finals followed, in 1986 against FC Barcelona and in 1987 against Cibona Zagreb, and both were lost.

The Italian titles came in 1988 and 1990. The first was a 3–1 finals win over Tracer Milano, the second a 3–1 win over Pallacanestro Varese. The coach of that period was Ettore Messina, and Dragan Kicanović, a Yugoslav guard, had played for the club from 1981 to 1983. Europe still refused to give up its last prize. Pesaro lost the Korać Cup finals of 1990 to Joventut Badalona and of 1992 to Virtus Roma, and it lost the 1993 EuroLeague final to Panathinaikos.

The decline was slow and then sudden. In 2005 a financial crisis brought down the original entity. The club was rebuilt as Scavolini-Spar and started again in Serie B1. It worked its way back to Serie A, and today it plays in Serie A2. Its regional derby is against Dole Basket Rimini, another Adriatic city.

Victoria Libertas won two league titles in 1988 and 1990, and 2005 broke the club that won them.
