Sporthalle Alpenstraße seats 2,200, and the team that fills it was put together from two older Salzburg clubs. UBBC Salzburg dated from 1952 and ULG Salzburg from 1986. In 2005 they merged as Basketballunion Salzburg. The first season, 2005/06, ended with the Salzburg state championship. A year later the club finished as runners-up in the regional league.
Salzburg basketball kept reshuffling after that. BSC Salzburg appeared in 2008 as another successor and won the western league in 2011/12, with both its men's and women's teams. In July 2023 former members of Basketballunion Salzburg founded BC Salzburg Knights, nicknamed the Ritter. They play in the Landesliga and have yet to win a title. Basketballunion Salzburg itself plays in the Austrian second division, the Zweite Liga, and enters the Austrian Cup.
The heavier silverware belongs to the predecessors. ULG took the western regional league in 1999/00. UBBC won the Grenzlandcup in 1967/68 and again in 1969/70. It also won the Bundesliga B, the league that then stood one step below Austria's top flight, three times. The first title came in 1964/65 and the third in 1991/92.
