The lesson stuck: when the Rocks won the 2. Basketball Bundesliga three years running, in 2012, 2013 and 2014, having already taken the Division Ost title in 2011 and the Burgenland State League five times over, they turned down promotion to the top flight each time rather than risk repeating the 49ers' collapse.

Home games are played in white, away games in black, at the Sporthalle Mattersburg. Matches against Güssing-Jennersdorf Blackbirds are billed locally as the Burgenland-Derby.

The name most tied to the club's history is Joey Vickery, a Canadian who played for both the 49ers and the Rocks and was inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005, the same year Mattersburg's current club was founded. He was part of the 49ers side that won the Austrian Cup in 2002, and he stayed on afterward, moving from the court to the bench as the Rocks' head coach.
