Mistelbach have made a habit of getting to the final of the Austrian Second League and losing it, this time against Union Deutsch Wagram Alligators, and it follows the one occasion the Mustangs actually won the thing, in 2023–24, when they beat that same Deutsch Wagram side 2–1 in the finals. Runner-up finishes against Vienna DC Timberwolves, Mattersburg Rocks, Güssing Blackbirds and Wörthersee Piraten fill the years in between.

The club traces back to 1953, when Franz Schmidt founded it as Katholischer Sportverein Mistelbach; games were first played on Pfadfinderplatz, behind the town's apprentice hostel, before the club joined the regional Lower Austrian and Burgenland basketball federation as a founding member the following year and took third place out of four teams in its debut championship in 1955. The Mustangs name and logo only arrived around 2012–13, decades after the club had already gone through its Katholische Jugend period as UKJ Mistelbach.

Alongside the Second League final, the club added a regional title in 2024–25, the Landesmeister 1. Klasse for Lower Austria, giving Mistelbach two trophies inside three seasons after a long run of near-misses.

Home games are played at the Sporthalle Mistelbach, rebuilt by Swietelsky in 2019 and known locally as the Mustangs Arena, on Bahnzeile in the town.
