Slovan Bratislava Women

Bratislava's women's team plays in the Slovak Extraliga against Piešťanské Čajky, MBK Ružomberok and Young Angels Košice without a modern-era title to its name.

The club on the court today is a 2006 restart. When ŠK Slovan La Futura Bratislava stopped operating in 2005, a new civic association bought the Extraliga licence from Ružomberok's reserve side and took the name and colours forward. What it inherited was a women's section stretching back to a basketball club founded in 1940, one that built its reputation under Czechoslovakia rather than Slovakia. Bronze medals arrived in 1954/55, then again through the 1970s and into 1983/84, with silver in 1978/79 and 1984/85.

The high point of that earlier era came in the 1977/78 Ronchetti Cup, the European competition for national champions, where the team reached the final and lost to Levski Sofia by a single point, 49:50. A semi-final followed the next season. Nothing since has matched that run, and the Ronchetti Cup itself no longer exists.

Home games are played at the Gopass Arena on Trnavská cesta, a hall that has carried several sponsor names over the years. Supporters know the team as Belasí, the light blues, after the club's colours.

The Kozmon family runs the club now, Ladislav, Beáta and Renáta among them. On court, the name still invoked from the Czechoslovak generation is Milena Rázgová, who played for the club before going on to the 1992 Olympics and a Czechoslovak and Slovak international career that brought European Championship bronze in 1993 and silver in 1997.
