Trencin Women

Trenčín has never gone looking for a rival on the court; its most lopsided result did the job instead. In the 2023/24 season, their debut in the Tipos Extraliga žien, they lost to Slávia Banská Bystrica 16:201, a scoreline that now shadows every meeting between the two sides.

That debut season came about because BAM Poprad chose not to buy the license, and Trenčín stepped into the vacancy. They finished the campaign eighth after falling to CBK Košice in the play-offs for fifth to eighth place — a modest return, but a first one, for a club with no senior honours of its own to point to.

Richard Ďorďai runs both ends of the operation, coaching the team and serving as club president. Mária Felixová came back to the squad for that first Extraliga season, giving the roster a face familiar from before the club existed in its current form.

Trenčín itself has carried a basketball name longer than this club has existed: BK TTS Trenčín, later renamed MBK Trenčín, won the Slovak Cup in 1994 and 1995 and took third place in the league the season before that. None of that history belongs to BK AS Trenčín on paper, but it explains why a team not yet five years old plays in a city that already knew what a cup run looked like.

Five former teammates — Richard Ďorďai among them, alongside Andrej Heleš, Michal Mucska, Juraj Petrovský and Jaroslav Vida — registered the club as a civic association on 14 January 2020, having agreed to form it the previous December.
