Extraliga Women (Slovakia) 2026/27

The Slovak Women's Basketball Extraliga (Basketbalová extraliga žien) stands as the premier professional women's basketball league in Slovakia. Organized by the Slovak Basketball Association (SBA), the competition was established in 1993 following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, replacing the Czechoslovak Women's Basketball Championship. Initially known as the 1. Liga, it was renamed the Extraliga in 2004. The league sits at the top of the Slovak basketball pyramid. The season format consists of a regular season played as a home-and-away round-robin. After this initial phase, the table splits into a Winners Stage for the top six teams and a Losers Stage for the bottom four. The top four from the Winners Stage advance to the semifinals, while the remaining teams compete in classification brackets. Playoffs, including the finals, are best-of-five series. Historically, the league has been dominated by two clubs: MBK Ružomberok, which claimed ten consecutive titles from 1993 to 2003, and Young Angels Košice, which secured ten consecutive titles from 2010 to 2018. Both clubs hold fifteen titles each. Piešťanské Čajky are the current champions, having defeated Slávia Banská Bystrica 3–0 in the 2024–25 final. Relegation involves the bottom two teams playing a playoff, with the loser facing the 1. Liga winner. European qualification spots are primarily awarded to the champion for the EuroCup Women, with occasional spots for the EuroLeague Women based on FIBA access lists. The league's distinct feature compared to the men's Slovak Basketball League is the retention of the 'Extraliga' name and the specific Winners/Losers Stage structure.
