Walferdange BBC Residence

Four times in a row, Résidence stood on top of the men's championship in Luxembourg: 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1997 belong to a squad that opponents could not shift for the better part of a decade. The women followed a similar pattern in their own division, taking the title in 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2009, and building a cup record that stretches back further still — eight wins between 1971 and 2009, longer than most rivals have been playing the women's game at all. In the cup, the men have had their say too, beating T71 Dudelange twice on the way to the trophy, in 1993 and again in 2016, with a further win added in 2024.

Fans and local press call the club Waffle, a play on the town's name, Walferdange, and the hashtag #Allez_Walfer travels with the team on matchdays. The club plays out of Walferdange, just north of Luxembourg City, in black and white.

Behind the senior honours sits a youth setup that has kept producing: age-group titles in the Minis, Cadets and Juniors categories run in an almost unbroken line from the early 1970s through to the present day, including repeated wins in the Coupe du Mini-Basket. It is the kind of foundation that explains why the senior teams' good years never looked accidental.

All of it traces back to 1965, when the club now known as Résidence Walferdange was formed.
