Amicale Steinsel

The Halle Omnisports Alain Marchetti holds a thousand people, and Amicale Steinsel has played there since September 1991. Before that the club had its own hall on Uelzechtstrooss, from 1953, the first sports hall in Luxembourg to be owned outright by a club rather than a municipality.

The club itself grew out of two separate efforts in the same village within a year of each other: a women's team formed by Georges Schwartz in the summer of 1946, and a men's team founded by local scouts on 18 January 1947. The two ran under one roof briefly before splitting again in 1948, when part of the men's side broke away and kept going under the Amicale name.

Ten league titles and seven Luxembourg Cups since. Basket Esch supplies the opposition that matters most; when the two meet in a final, it is called the Choc locally.

What the club is proudest of, though, sits in its youth setup rather than its trophy count: the age group born in 1996 and 1997 went through under-14, under-16 and under-18 without losing a match, then came back in 2014 to win the under-22 national title as the youngest squad to do it. Bob Melcher came out of that pipeline and stayed a fixture of the national team for years afterward.
