About the player
Aleksandar Katai holds the all-time scoring record in the Serbian SuperLiga. On 18 October 2024, his goal against Radnički Niš in a 5–1 win took him to 104 league goals, moving him past Milan Bojović at the top of the competition's history. That strike came in his second spell at Red Star.
Katai came through the youth ranks at Vojvodina and made his senior debut there in 2010. Olympiacos signed him in 2011, but he never appeared for the first team, spending the following seasons out on loan at OFI Crete, back at Vojvodina, and then at Platanias. He topped the SuperLiga scoring charts that same season, 2015–16.
A move abroad followed, first to Deportivo Alavés, then to Major League Soccer with Chicago Fire. His spell at LA Galaxy in 2020 was cut short when the club released him in June that year, after his wife posted racist remarks on social media. He returned to Red Star the following month, his contract extended in October 2025 to run until 2027.
With Red Star, Katai has won seven Serbian SuperLiga titles and six Serbian Cups, and sits joint-seventh on the club's all-time scoring list.
