About the player
Ben Davies grew up in Barrow-in-Furness and started at Furness Rovers. He joined the Preston academy in 2007, aged 11, and made his senior debut in January 2013. He signed his first professional contract that May.
The loans followed: York City in 2013–14, Tranmere Rovers in 2014, Southport in 2015, Newport County in 2016 and Fleetwood Town in 2017. Preston's supporters named him Young Player of the Year for 2017–18, and a year later he took the Players' Player of the Year award, also known as the Sir Tom Finney Player of the Year. Ankle trouble hampered him in 2019–20.
In February 2021 he moved to Liverpool for an initial £500,000, with add-ons that could take the total to £1.6 million. He did not play a competitive first-team match for the club. He spent 2021–22 on loan at Sheffield United, where he made 23 appearances.
Rangers signed him in July 2022 for an initial £3 million, a fee that could rise to £4 million. A hamstring injury that October interrupted his first months in Glasgow. In early 2024 a concussion sustained in training kept him out for five months. The 2023–24 season ended with the Scottish League Cup, though he was not in the team for the final against Aberdeen.
He left Rangers in 2026 and joined Bolton Wanderers in June on a free transfer.
