About the player
Sam Dalby's most recent goal of note came at Wembley: the third in the 81st minute of the 2026 League One play-off final against Stockport County, which secured Bolton's promotion to the Championship.
He has been a senior professional since he was 16. Dalby made his debut for Leyton Orient in August 2016, becoming one of the club's youngest players, and scored his first goal that December. Leeds United signed him in January 2018, but he made no first-team appearances there and had a loan at Morecambe in 2019. Watford followed, with loans at Stockport County and Woking in 2021.
Southend United gave him regular football. He joined on a free transfer in July 2021 and scored nine goals in 43 appearances. Wrexham signed him in August 2022, and he won the National League title with them in 2022–23.
The Scottish season was the turning point. Sent on loan to Dundee United in August 2024, he scored 15 goals in 35 Scottish Premiership appearances and finished joint-top scorer. He was named the league's Player of the Month for November 2024.
At Bolton he has scored 14 goals in 48 league appearances. One of them, against Plymouth Argyle in April 2026, was first recorded as an own goal before the Dubious Goals Committee awarded it to him.
