Cameron Robert Burgess

Cameron Burgess was a central defender in the Ipswich Town side that won the EFL Championship in 2023–24, taking the club into the Premier League for the first time in its history. He played in the top flight the following season, and his spell at Portman Road began in August 2021 on a three-year contract with an option for a fourth. He reached 100 appearances for the club in 2023.

His route there was unusual. Born in Aberdeen, he moved to Australia at the age of 11 and played youth football with ECU Joondalup SC from 2006 to 2011. He also had short spells with Celtic and Aberdeen before joining the Fulham academy in 2011, and he signed his first professional contract there in July 2013. In 2014 he switched his international allegiance from Scotland to Australia.

Fulham sent him out on loan to Ross County, Cheltenham Town, Oldham Athletic and Bury. At Cheltenham he won the National League title in 2015–16. He moved to Scunthorpe United in June 2017 and spent time on loan at Salford City. In August 2020 he joined Accrington Stanley on a free transfer, the last stop before Ipswich.

Burgess made his senior debut for the Socceroos in September 2023 and has been selected in Australia's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His contract at Ipswich expired in June 2025, and he joined Swansea City on a free transfer, signing a three-year deal.
