Callum Thomas Owen Paterson

Callum Paterson arrived at Tynecastle Boys Club as a child from London before moving to Scotland at the age of three. He progressed through the Heart of Midlothian Academy, becoming a youth graduate who made his mark on the first team. His breakthrough came during a campaign where he helped secure the Scottish Championship title for the Edinburgh side. It was a season that established him as a reliable striker, earning him the club’s Young Player of the Year award.

After his contract with Hearts expired, he moved to Cardiff City on a free transfer. The move proved successful as he finished as the club’s top league scorer in a single season, netting ten goals. His performances were instrumental in securing an EFL Championship promotion via a second-place finish. Cardiff also recognised his potential by naming him Young Player of the Year for that campaign.

Paterson then joined Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed fee. He spent five years with the Owls, making over 160 league appearances and contributing twenty-five goals. His tenure ended with a significant achievement: winning the EFL League One play-offs. This victory allowed him to step up to a higher level of competition.

In 2025, he signed for Milton Keynes Dons on a free transfer. The move has yielded immediate returns, as he is currently the club’s top scorer with sixteen goals in thirty-six league apps. His form has been recognised with a place in the EFL League Two Team of the Season and the PFA Team of the Year. He also finished as runner-up in the league with MK Dons.

Internationally, Paterson has earned seventeen caps for Scotland since his debut against Italy in 2016. While he has not scored for the senior team, he has been a consistent presence in the squad. He is known for his goal celebrations and was nominated for the EFL Player of the Season award following his strong start at Milton Keynes Dons.

He plays with his right foot and stands at 183 cm. His versatility was evident in his earlier career when he played as a defender and midfielder before settling into his current role as a centre-forward.
