Connal Trueman

For most of a decade, Connal Trueman was the goalkeeper who waited. He joined the Birmingham City academy in 2007, signed his first professional contract in June 2014 and stayed until 2022, mostly as the understudy. Much of that time was spent on loan.

His most sustained run came at AFC Wimbledon in 2020–21. He made 19 League One appearances and conceded 39 goals. Spells at Swindon Town and Oxford United followed before he left Birmingham.

Trueman joined Millwall on a free transfer in August 2022 and did not make a first-team appearance for them in three years. His most notable games in that period came on loan at Crawley Town in 2024. Crawley took him twice on emergency seven-day deals, needing cover for injuries and for international duty at his parent club. He played two matches in October and three in November, one of them a clean sheet against Burton Albion.

In February 2025 he moved to Milton Keynes Dons, again on a free transfer. In 2025–26 he played six League Two matches, three in the EFL Trophy and one in the EFL Cup. He was part of the squad that won promotion to League One at the end of that season.

He has played for none of England's national sides. An earlier reserve-team memory is the 2016 Birmingham Senior Cup final, where he was an unused substitute for the Birmingham City under-21s.
