About the player
Favour Onukwuli's rise has come without fanfare: a winger from the Volenti Academy in London who earned a professional deal at Sheffield Wednesday in January 2023 on the back of a successful trial. It took until Boxing Day 2025 for the breakthrough to arrive, when he made his senior debut against Hull City in the Championship. Three league appearances followed before his contract expired that August, and Onukwuli left Hillsborough as a free agent without troubling the scoresheet.
Cheltenham Town moved quickly. Another trial, another impression made, and on 8 August 2026 Onukwuli signed for the club on a free transfer. He needed no time to settle in: he was named in the squad for an EFL Cup tie against Charlton Athletic on the very day he signed.
At Cheltenham he plays predominantly off the left, cutting in on his stronger right foot. For now his season is still being written — no goals, no honours, just a handful of senior appearances to his name across two clubs.
