About the player
Johann Lepenant grew up in Granville and came through the Stade Malherbe Caen academy after leaving his hometown club US Granville. He made his professional debut for Caen in September 2020 and went on to make 54 appearances for the senior side.
In June 2022, Olympique Lyonnais signed him for a fee of €4.25 million plus €2.5 million in bonuses, along with a 10% resale clause, and handed him a five-year contract. His time in Lyon brought 37 appearances and one goal. In August 2024, he moved to FC Nantes on a season-long loan with an option to buy. He made 29 appearances for Nantes in the 2024–25 season and scored twice. Nantes triggered the purchase option in July 2025, signing him permanently on a contract running until June 2029 for a fee of €2.5 million.
Lepenant has moved through every France youth levels, from the U16s to the U21s, winning the Maurice Revello Tournament with the U20 side in 2022. His biggest moment on the international stage came in July 2024, when he was called up to the France Olympic squad as a replacement for Lesley Ugochukwu. He played in the group-stage win over New Zealand and went on to win a silver medal at the Paris Olympics after France lost the final to Spain. He has not yet made his debut for the senior France team.
